A Chapter Ends
Less than 26 days until I'm in NYC and less than 75 days until I'm in Moscow.
I know because I obsessively check the countdown app on my phone. I'm also four days away from graduating from The George Washington University, which is incredible, but also just reminds me that I'm going to be that one girl at Joffrey Trainee program whose fun fact is that she used to run risk assessment for the security team of a high profile foreign ambassador to the U.S.
Yes, the end of undergrad is fast approaching, given that I passed my classes--now that the three papers and three finals are over, it's been a whirl of packing and ceremony and seeing my parents!
Also now that I don't have to go to classes, I can go to nine ballet classes a week instead of the usual six. That means more pointe classes, smaller groups (so I get to chat in the hallways more easily), and a better understanding of the weekly class structure so that I can focus on my technique instead of what comes next in the combination.
I'm also in the phase where I look at my friends going to get their masters degrees in international relations, my friends going to vet school, my friends enlisting in the navy, and my friends entering the Peace Corps and I am astounded at how talented and dedicated all of my friends are, and I have to speak up and say that no, I don't have a job lined up post-grad, but I do have plans.
In fact, today, I spoke to the dean of my college--a former ambassador to the African Union and a naval officer. He remembered me (from all of the other events I've gone to) and after I explained that I was pursing professional dance, he shook my hand and reminded me to connect with NYC area alumni.
I really felt much better after his words, and I think it's because I have this underlying shame about going into the arts instead of intelligence or diplomacy, but the enthusiasm and support that I felt (for however brief a moment before he had to talk to other students) definitely lightened the mood.
