Page #1 of the New Chapter
Yesterday at 7am, I landed at JFK Airport after a red-eye flight from Seattle. I slept on a plane for what I feel is the first time since I was on planes for 18 hours after a debacle on the way from Washington DC to Nantes, France.
My saving grace in NYC is Leah, the college roommate who enlisted recently in the navy and is about to go off and do amazing, brave things in a few months. I not only crashed on her couch, but she took me to Target to buy things like sheets and towels--dorm things.
NYC is rainy right now, which means that the day is hot and muggy but the evenings are essentially perfect.
I moved in this morning after staying up last night watching Marvel movies until 2am, and Leah talked me through my move-in anxiety and it was the easiest move-in I've ever experienced. They gave me the right key (unlike in Paris), they assigned me to the right living space (unlike in Rabat), and the wait took about 5 minutes (unlike every GWU check-in).
I'm still very worried about the program--about everything from the meal plan to making friends to my flexibility and stamina to class levels to the toenail that's threatening to fall off. I just got the schedule for the first week and I'm so excited at the same time, though. It sounds totally doable, and thankfully I'll be at the JBS main campus, which is nice because I don't know how to get to the other locations. Also, thankfully I brought my character shoes and skirt, because that's the last class on Friday. I'm so ready for character.
