That JBS Trainee Life
I've done it!
One week ago, I got on a red-eye flight to New York, crashed at my friend's apartment, and snagged a 22 dollar Uber from Brooklyn to Manhattan to move all of my stuff into the dorm. After a day of orientation and a free Tuesday, I started classes on Wednesday.
Our schedule is fine, except for the 8:30am start time, and that's only frustrating because I'm lazy. I'll learn soon enough how to wake up earlier without as much complaining. I have a single now--it's still got a bunk bed, which gives me some extra storage space, and it came with shelving over the tiny stove, so I have a place to store all of my teas that I packed last minute. I also found a functioning lamp in the closet, so all in all, I scored pretty well with the dorm room (if only the water pressure in the shower were better).
And I did bring my own amenities, like my water heater and a new Nutribullet! So I've been eating a lot of spinach and kale, but I've done it by tricking myself by including pineapple and bananas and coconut milk. What a nifty little device--although too noisy to use to make my 7am breakfasts.
Classes are excellent so far. I did injure my back at the gym the day I left for New York, and it bothered me all week, even taking me out of Jazz class and leaving me pounding on the office door in tears, begging for an ice pack, but I woke up this morning and it felt basically all better, which means I can go back to 90 degree arabesques and full participation in Pilates class (aka Kinetics).
On Friday, we have class with Era Jouravlev, the artistic director of the trainee program, and she gave us a two hour barre comprised entirely of exercises for our turnout. My entire body hurts, but if that's indicative of how meticulous our teachers are going to be, then I am so ready.

All schedules are on MindBody App so I had to make my own portable copy. |
