Sicknesses and Auditions
I got caught up in the university germ cloud at the worst possible time.
It's not terrible--not the worst illness I've ever had, at least. It's been mostly limited to almost falling off of pointe in pirouettes, (probably) being a Typhoid Mary at rush events for my co-ed fraternity, and vomiting in Arabic class. My whole body is achy and I just want to go to Bikram yoga, which is probably not the best idea for someone who is likely dehydrated already.
Since I am the product of a Chinese mother who swears by her acupuncturist, drinks traditional herbal teas, and visits her shaman friend on the regular; and a California boy chicken-farm-raised father who told me when I left for college that I'd better go to class unless I was actively projectile vomiting--I continue to go to classes and continue to not take any medication. I will, of course, if this lasts for more than a week, but if my body fights it off before then, no harm done.
So instead of Tylenol, I am consuming lots of oranges and ginger-lemon-turmeric tea. For this, I rely mostly on Jrink, one of those Washington DC juice bars that seem to be tucked away into yoga studios or at farmers' markets. But this one includes hot teas and super friendly staff and it's also extremely close to where my Arabic class is.
Anyway, the reason this whole debacle is at the worst possible time is because I have two auditions this weekend for programs for which I would really, really, like to be in my best state: Joffrey NYC and Ailey Trainee.
Let's just hope that I have enough brainpower to stay upright during the auditions.
