I will be attending Joffrey NYC intensive for seven weeks before immediately flying to Moscow for the four week Joffrey Bolshoi program.

Since I'd rather do anything other than study Arabic vocab words or write an analysis of Emile Zola's "Therese Raquin," I'm searching for "how to prepare for a summer intensive."

Many of them focus on homesickness and parents staying with kids.  As a 21 year old who will be wrapping up college on the opposite coast from my momma and lived in France for a year, I'm not too concerned about this, but I know that I'll be Skyping my parents incessantly, as always.

However, as a 21 year old who took a five year break from serious dance training and still does not have any of her three splits down (for real, I've never been able to do the splits), I do know that there's a lot to work on before I get to NYC, and definitely a lot to work on before Moscow.  That was partially my parents' reasoning for the NYC intensive.  I really only planned on attending Moscow, but then my dad said that he didn't want me not dancing for three months and then going to the Bolshoi, and that makes a lot of sense.

I've been taking a break from Yoga as I'm experiencing some distressing pain in my lower back, but I'm headed back to Pilates, so we'll see if that's enough to get me in a pain-free state so I can look at improving my flexibility again.

It's overwhelming to think about prepping, since whenever I think "oh, I should focus on this one thing" I always inevitably think "oh, and this other thing," and before I know it, I have a list of every single insecurity in my dancing and I really have no starting point.

But I do know that I should really get my splits down.
